Midland 4F No. 43924 – This is Your Life
By Fiona Kennaugh
A 32-page paperback book describing the life of this unique Midland locomotive No. 43924. The engine became famous for being the very first to be bought and moved out of the famous Woodhams scrapyard at Barry – in September 1968. Last based at Bristol, it was close to the scrapyards in South Wales and fortunate to go to Woodhams as it was to remain there for eventual preservation by the Midland 4F Society based at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.
We hear the history of this engine dating from 1920 and its period in BR operation. Fiona’s father Alec Macdonald was to join forces with Ian Johnson and prepare 43924 and bring the engine to Yorkshire, by rail, all the way from South Wales. It was restored and put into use once more in 1970.
This book describes the events and is well-illustrated with archive black & white and colour photographs up to date.

The Barry List No. 12 – Book
£4.95We are pleased to announce the latest edition of our famous Barry List which has become the ‘bible’ for heritage railways who have many of their steam fleet from this once ‘graveyard of steam’. This is the 50th anniversary issue 1973 – 2023.
Since the last edition, the eleventh edition, there have been many changes to the locomotives that escaped from Dai Woodhams’ yard at Barry. More have steamed into further service; many have changed locations; some have been scrapped to make way for new-build projects and dozens have now been withdrawn for overhauls.
‘The Barry List – Twelfth Edition’ details all of the changes up to date in April 2023; full list of locomotives saved from Woodham Brothers at Barry; those of the 213 saved which have steamed so far; where they are all located; those which will never steam again and those which have helped construct new-builds.
