The LNER A3 Pacific which was re-launched in January 2016 is quite probably the most famous steam locomotive in the world. Following its £4.2 million pound rebuild, No. 60103 has graced the main line again after more than 15 years. Flying Scotsman’s recent visits to heritage railways is covered in this DVD programme to co-incide with this special anniversary. This DVD features rare archive film from British Pathe News of the locomotive in 1925 at the Empire Exhibition; from the air in the 1930s; film of the ‘Flying Scotsman’ train and sequences of the Stirling Single No. 1 in a comparison film with a new ‘A1’ Pacific; and brief history of the locomotive which was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. Also viewed is its 40th anniversary 1968 non-stop run from Kings Cross to Edinburgh and of its last run in 1963 and purchase by Alan Pegler. Film of the locomotive being shipped to the USA in 1969 from Liverpool Docks, as we follow its fortunes and misfortunes since purchase by Alan Pegler in 1963. It includes many of its first main line operations since 2016 including at work on the Mid-Hants Railway, East Lancs, North York Moors and at Swanage .
