Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway
May 1, 2024Stafford to Bescot Yard
and Yard Shunts
This interesting cab ride is aboard Class 90 025 starting a crew learning light engine movement to Bescot yard.
The journey begins at Stafford where we sit in the platform as an HST pulls out towards London Euston. Our Class 90 then progresses to Penkridge, Bushbury Jct, Wednesfield Heath Tunnel, Portobello Jct, Darlaston to Bescot.
Once at Tame Bridge we enter Bescot Yard where we begin to start the shunting moves required to be completed by crews in this large yard right alongside the M6 motorway. A good number of stored locomotives are seen in sidings including classes 20,31,37 and 47s. This operation was by EWS before it became DB Cargo and
shows the yard before it became more associated with ballast removal and without diesel locomotives stored in great numbers ready for scrapping.
Approximately 1 hour 10 minutes duration
