Probably more than in any other period in history, our major towns and countryside have undergone considerable change. Fortunately, in the case of Purbeck, much of the town’s architecture and colourful gardens were recorded on film, together with important civic events by skillful film-makers.
This compilation of archive footage from the 1930s and 1940s, includes farming in colour during the second world war at Church Knowle. The old films show the transformation from horses to machines and are presented by Nancy and Howard Stevens.
Films of Corfe Castle and people include features on artists who lived in this quaint village. Filmed in 1937 by David Brynley and Norman Notley. Sheila Clarke recalls her childhood memories of seaside holidays in Swanage in the 1930s.
DVD Duration approximately 55 minutes
