An award-winning,ย colour film, made during the early 1960s depicting the Settle-Carlisle Railway and its structures before the end of steam.
This is a very special opportunity to own a copy of the film โThe Long Dragโ on DVD.
Made between 1960 and 1963 by Peter Boocock, a keen film maker from West Yorkshire, his award-winning film about the Settle-Carlisle Railway won its title in the world-wide โTenbestโ film awards of 1963.
This evocative colour film about the Settle & Carlisle Railwayย ย portrays an important era on the line, when titled trains were still evident, and hauled by โPeaksโ, and when freight was veryย much in the hands of steam motive power.
We see the line before its final run-down and view the stations and structures with all their fittings.
His filming period included the severe winter of 1962-3 and brings to reality the harshness of a snow covered Pennine route.
Approx. 50 minutes.

Saving of Settle Signal Box
£4.00The remarkable story of how Settle’s old 1891 signal box was moved from its location of over 100 years to nearer the station. The movement required special measures being put in place to make certain the structure was secure and steel bracing put around it. A 90-ton road crane was hired in to lift the box onto six trolleys positioned across the main Settle-Carlisle Line which was closed and in a possession for track work elsewhere along the route.
This is the photographic story of the movement in 1997 and the restoration of the signal box as seen by photographs by Roger Hardingham.
